How short-break holidays can help boost your trundl walking habit

According to a recent survey  by trundl partner Sykes Holiday Cottages it’s clear that UK holidaymakers love a short break. As it turns out, a typical year sees respondents go on at least three short-breaks in the UK. And not surprisingly, walking around sightseeing is a top reason for short holidays, together with relaxation and escape from routine.

So why are short holidays a good way to build a trundl or walking habit?

Weekend beach or city holidays invite you to go walking

As the top short-break destinations from Sykes’ survey show, our favourite historic cities and coastlines destinations are brilliant for walking.

Being an island, we’re never far from the sea or other watery places that demand to be walked along.  Similarly, we’re spoiled for choice of walkable cities that are perfect for a short break. And over a couple of days, it won’t feel like exercise when you’re out exploring a complete change of scenery.  On a city break, for example, we typically walk between 8-12 miles a day without even noticing it.

Short breaks recharge your mind as well as your body

Planning breaks across the calendar helps you stay refreshed throughout the year rather than relying on a longer holiday. Simply put, short trips are a fast reset because regular time away from demands of daily life provide a valuable mental detox.  Particularly, as we tend to be more active and go out walking to make the most of our time away. And as we explored in a recent trundl blog, regular walking is great for mental health.

Short walking breaks are easy to plan and execute

With the booking of flights, hotels, car-hire and more, a long break can sometimes seem more effort than it’s worth. In contrast, UK short breaks feel easier to organise, particularly if you’re booking through Sykes Holiday Cottages.  With Sykes, not only can you search by location, but also by holiday type, occasion and even add features such as dog-friendly and hot tub.

And of course, you can get inspired about amazing walking destinations, available right across the UK and Ireland.

Once you’ve planned one, you’ll be hungry to try more, we guarantee.

We hope you feel inspired to take more short walking breaks in the UK this year. And if you turn those walks into trundls, you’ll experience an extra boost from helping others at the same time.

Sykes Holiday Cottages and walking for charity app trundl celebrate a 3rd year of partnership

We’re proud to say that, for the 3rd year, Sykes Holiday Cottages will support a number of 2025’s Community trundls. Their generous contribution to trundl’s donation pot gives members a greater incentive to go out walking and support UK charities.  All part of Sykes’ mission as a B Corp to make a positive impact on people, community, and planet.
