A young man rings the bell to show that he has finished his cancer treatment. His smiling partner stands beside him. Both are members of walking for charity app trundl

Delsha and her partner Joe were in their early 20’s when Joe was diagnosed with an aggressive brain cancer.  Joe received rare proton-beam therapy and, despite some serious complications, rang the long-awaited recovery bell on Christmas Eve, 2024. Having taken time off to support him, Delsha is happy to share how MOVE Against Cancer charity and trundl helped them start walking and exercising again.

5K Your Way events got us moving and walking

‘Discovering trundl has, without question, changed how we feel about walking and being active.

Having been largely house-bound during my partner’s cancer treatment, getting fit again was somewhat daunting for both of us.

Luckily, we heard about MOVE Against Cancer Charity’s 5K Your Way events, held at 100+ UK Parkruns every month. Here we were welcomed into a friendly group who encouraged us to get moving at whatever pace we could manage.  Not only did we feel motivated to take exercise, but we also found great support and friendship.  People from all walks of life join 5K Your Way events and we were by no means the youngest participants.

Soon I volunteered to help the brilliant ambassadors and that’s when I first heard about the trundl charity walking app.  Debs Willoughby, a lovely ambassador from 5K Your Way, made a presentation, telling us that, with trundl, we can raise funds for MOVE and other UK charities year-round.

trundl encouraged us to walk more to help UK charities

This was just the motivation we needed to go out walking more.  Knowing that every walk with the trundl app creates funds for UK charities inspired us to walk most days.  Seeing our steps mount up towards donations was undoubtedly a boost and made us determined to get more steps in.

My experience has been phenomenal and really put me on the path to a healthier lifestyle. Knowing that you can give back to others just by walking, while also getting physical and emotional benefits, is amazing.

I’m happy to go walking for all the charities as they’re great causes. Wildlife and National Parks are close to our hearts as nature was important to us before Joe fell ill.  We loved hiking, going on adventures and making memories and are looking forward to doing that again soon.  And of course, I’m always grateful to MOVE Against Cancer Charity, so we’re excited when their trundl comes up.

Why we love using trundl

From an exercise perspective, I enjoy the thrill of turning trundl on and seeing the number of steps and donations I’ve created.  While I sometimes forget to turn it on, it’s great that you can upload your walk later. Collecting badges and seeing on my profile page the progress and impact I’m making gives me a real buzz.

If you’re looking for an easy-to-use and affordable exercise programme that makes you feel great, trundl is a top option. Or you can add it to your current regime, keep fit between sessions and do good at the same time. Whichever way, it’s a no brainer in our book!’
